Access Statement for Forda Lodges & Cottages

Introduction:

Forda has one cottage (Forda Stables), which has been designed for guests with impaired mobility. In addition, Forda Barn and lodges Beech and Ash have ground floor bedrooms and bathrooms but there are steps into the buildings. All facilities and amenities at Forda have been designed with guests with impaired mobility in mind (see below).

Pre – Arrival:

Our main website is www.forda.co.uk, where there is useful information on accessibility at Forda. Bookings and enquiries can be made by telephone, email or enquiry form via the website.

Arrival, Reception & Car Parking Facilities:

A parking bay is available by the gate to the reception (sign-posted) – it is advisable for a non-wheelchair user to come alone to reception as a path with chippings is involved. We will then come to the car to take you to the parking for the cottage/lodge. The Stables has its own parking on level tarmac and some lodges also have parking on the level in front of the lodges.

Public Areas, Amenities etc:

Many of the paths/roads within the grounds of Forda are tarmac and suitable for wheelchairs or mobility scooters and on the roads there is a very low speed limit. The tennis court, games room and laundry room all have disabled access, as does the main pool building. This area also has a disabled toilet, changing room and shower and the sauna has a disabled access door. The pool has easy access with steps and handrail. There is also disabled parking available for the pool building, games room, laundry and tennis. (Forda Stables, has its own laundry facilities in the cottage as does Forda Barn). A disabled friendly bridge links the accommodation areas with the parkland and fishing lakes across the river. Wheelchair access to the fishing is possible when not too wet and muddy. Parking nearer the fishing is also available. Some of our Spa Treatments are suitable and adaptable for those with mobility problems and the treatment room is accessible.

Forda Stables – Impaired mobility cottage:

All doorways and passageways are wide enough for a wheelchair. Parking (level on tarmac) is directly in front of the front door leading into the kitchen. The front door has level access for a wheelchair user. The dining area has wheelchair access to the dining table. A gentle slope, with handrail, leads to the sitting room. The cottage has three bedrooms, including a twin-bed room which is designed for a wheelchair user, with appropriate bed level and 6” clearance under the bed, wardrobes, dressing tables and mirrors. One of these has a disabled adapted bathroom en suite (bath seat-board available for use). There is also a separate disabled wet room and toilet. A rigid shower chair is available in the wet room area. All rooms have low level light switches and sockets. There is also an emergency call system for the en suite and disabled bedrooms. The Stables has a private patio with picnic table, with hard slabs and gentle slope with handrail access from French windows in the lounge. Unfortunately pets, are unable to stay in the Stables.

Other Accomodation:

Forda Barn: This cottage has private parking directly outside. Downstairs it has the lounge, kitchen, dining area and also one bedroom and family bathroom (with separate bath and shower – shower has a small lip to step over for access). There are two steps up into the cottage and kitchen and dining area and then a further interior step to the lounge, bedroom and bathroom. There is one step down from the kitchen/dining area to the the bunkbed room and utility room. This cottage is pet-free. Upstairs has a double bedroom, twin bedroom and a small bathroom with half bath and low, sloping ceiling.

Delta Lodges Ash & Beech: Both lodges are all on one level but with three steps up to the outside deck area and front door.

Ash has one double bedroom and has a bathroom with shower (small lip to step over for access).

Beech has a double and twin (sleeping up to 4) and has a bathroom with shower (small lip to step over for access). Beech lodge accepts a pet but Ash does not.

“A” Frame Lodges: These lodges are on two floors with large open plan living, dining and kitchen area downstairs. The bathroom and toilet are also downstairs – there is a bath with shower over and screen (for the shower you need to step into the bath). The bedrooms are upstairs and are accessed by natural wood, open tread stairs, but we can move a single bed downstairs if needed. Parking for half of the lodges is directly in front of the lodge and for the others the parking is behind the lodge with steps or a slope down to the lodge. Five of the eight lodges have one low step up to their patios and then one low step into the front door.

Additional Information:

Dogs are accepted in half of the lodges.

Access to the Local Area:

Public transport is very poor in the local area and there is no direct link with Forda itself. There is an infrequent bus service from the village of Kilkhampton (a mile and a half from Forda) to Bude, from where there are buses to several towns, including Exeter and Plymouth and their mainline train stations. We can also provide information on local taxi services which cater for wheelchairs.

If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us by email or telephone.
